2016 – 2017  Parent of the Year Award

The Virginia Association for the Gifted (VAG) will present an annual “Parent of the Year” award to a parent whose exemplary contribution to gifted education has affected Virginia’s children, teachers, schools, programs, services, and/or policies. The award will be presented at the annual conference or seminar.


To qualify for the “Parent of the Year” Award, the nominee shall:

  • Be a consistent advocate of appropriate programs and services for gifted students (advocating from the role of a parent);

  • Have had an impact on gifted education in the state of Virginia through outstanding leadership and/or creative innovation at either the local or state levels;

  • Be an individual who has harnessed the energy and support of teachers, administrators, and/or other parents for the benefit of gifted students and/or programs and services;

  • Be a VAG member in good standing 

 Application must be submitted on or before March 31, 2017


* The VAG Awards Committee reserves the right to withdraw an award if nominations submitted do not meet the stated criteria or if a nominee’s achievements, as described, do not meet the intent of the award.

* Incomplete or late applications will not be scored
